Bankruptcy and winding-up search: Hong Kong
A bankruptcy and winding-up search runs against the records of the Official Receiver's Office. For an individual it shows whether a bankruptcy petition has been presented or a bankruptcy order made, and whether the person is or has been subject to an individual voluntary arrangement. For a company it shows whether a compulsory winding-up petition has been presented or a winding-up order made, with the case number and dates. The Official Receiver's Office does not hold records of voluntary liquidations; those are filed with the Companies Registry, and the company particulars report shows the winding-up mode.
Lenders and credit teams order it before lending to a person or a company. Compliance teams order it in onboarding and at periodic review, and on directors and beneficial owners as well as the company. Employers and landlords order it before a contract. Insolvency practitioners and litigators order it to confirm status before proceedings.
Send the full name of the person, with the identification number if you hold it, or the company name or business registration number. The result comes back as a PDF in the same thread, or through the API. The Official Receiver's Office searches by the name of the person, with the identity card number where given, or by the name of the company or the trading name of a business.

What the result contains
- For a person: any bankruptcy petition or order, with case number and dates, and any individual voluntary arrangement
- For a company: any compulsory winding-up petition or order, with case number and dates
- The name searched and the date of the search against the Official Receiver's records
- A note that voluntary liquidations are not on the Official Receiver's records

Does it show voluntary liquidations?
No. The Official Receiver's Office records compulsory winding-up only. A voluntary liquidation appears on the Companies Registry's record, which a company particulars search shows as the winding-up mode.
Does it show a petition that has been presented but not yet heard?
Yes. The records cover petitions presented as well as orders made.
Can we search a person and a company in one order?
Yes. Name each in the email and each result comes back in the same thread.
