Singpass is the national digital identity of Singapore, operated by the Government Technology Agency (GovTech). Singapore citizens, permanent residents and holders of a Foreign Identification Number aged 15 or above can register. The app is used to log in to government and private services, to sign documents, and to share personal data held by the government through Myinfo, with the individual's consent on each request.
When a business connects to Singpass, its customer logs in with the app, sees which data items are requested, and consents. Myinfo then returns the data as held by the government: the NRIC or FIN, Principal Name, nationality, registered address and, for FIN holders, employer and occupation, among the items the business is approved to receive. The business does not receive a copy of a document; it receives verified fields.
Why it matters for KYC
MAS Notice 626 requires a bank to verify identity using reliable, independent source data (paragraph 6.9) and, without face-to-face contact, to apply measures at least as robust as face-to-face (paragraph 6.29). MAS's circular AMLD 01/2018 says it considers Myinfo a reliable and independent source for name, identification number, date of birth, nationality and residential address, and that it will not require additional identification documents or a separate photograph where Myinfo is used. For a Hong Kong firm with Singapore customers, Singpass gives the same strength of evidence that iAM Smart gives in Hong Kong.
How Fill Easy relates to it
Singpass verification runs through GovVerify, behind the same API, consent flow and schema as iAM Smart, China eID and UAE Pass.
