Money lenders register: Hong Kong
A money lenders register search confirms whether a person or company holds a licence under the Money Lenders Ordinance (Cap. 163). The register is kept by the Registrar of Money Lenders, a role performed by the Registrar of Companies, and searched on the Companies Registry's e-Services Portal. The result shows the licensee's name, licence number, the address of the licensed premises, the licence's period of validity and any conditions, together with the particulars of third parties the licensee has appointed to arrange loans. The Registry also publishes lists of licence applications, expired licences and dismissed or withdrawn applications.
Banks and payment firms order it when onboarding a money lender as a customer, since lending without a licence is an offence and an unlicensed loan is generally unenforceable. Borrowers' advisers and litigators order it to check a lender's standing. Money lenders themselves order it on a third party before accepting introductions, because a loan arranged through an unregistered third party breaches the licence conditions.
Send the lender's name or licence number, and the name of any third party you want checked. The result comes back as a PDF in the same thread, or through the API.
