Company search in Macau

Macau companies are registered with the Commercial and Movable Property Registry, which sits under the Legal Affairs Bureau (DSAJ). The registry issues the commercial registration certificate that Macau banks, notaries and counterparties rely on, and a written report of the same record for information purposes. Both show the company's capital, registered office, administrators and, for quota companies, the holders of each quota.

Fill Easy returns these documents from the registry by email to agent@fill-easy.com or through the REST API. Records are in Chinese or Portuguese. Every result records the source, the retrieval time and the request ID.

Registry

Commercial and Movable Property Registry

商業及動產登記局 / Conservatória dos Registos Comercial e de Bens Móveis

Legal Affairs Bureau (法務局 / Direcção dos Serviços de Assuntos de Justiça, DSAJ), Government of the Macao SAR

The registry records the incorporation, articles, capital, quota holders, administrators and representatives of commercial companies and sole traders under the Commercial Registration Code. Certificates and written reports are applied for at the registry, or online through the Macao One Account (一戶通) and the Business and Associations Platform (商社通); the written report can also be applied for online without either account. The registry's Commercial Registration Information Platform (商業登記訊息平台) shows confirmed basic registration data free of charge, by registration number or keyword: registration number, business name, registered office, object, capital, the members of the administration and how they sign. The registry says the platform is for reference only.

The Macao SAR Government's service guide lists four products: the commercial registration certificate, the written report of commercial registration (查公司紙), the certificate that a business name may be registered (查名紙) and the confirmation of a commercial registration certificate. The written report is for information only and anyone may apply for it.

Online applications are issued within two working days; a paper certificate applied for at the counter is issued within five hours, or the next working day when the articles or filed documents are attached. A certificate costs MOP 50, plus stamp duty of MOP 15 for a paper certificate (MOP 5 for each additional page) or MOP 15 flat for an electronic one; a paper certificate reproducing more than 20 pages of filed documents adds MOP 2 per further page, capped at MOP 1,000. A written report costs MOP 20.

Identifier

Commercial registration number (商業登記編號 / número de registo comercial)

A number assigned by the registry at first registration and cited on company documents with the registry's suffix, for example 12345 (SO) for a company. Companies also hold a taxpayer number from the Financial Services Bureau for business tax (營業稅) purposes.

Documents

DocumentWhat it shows
Commercial registration certificate (商業登記證明 / Certidão de registo comercial)The certified current record: company name in Chinese and Portuguese, registration number, registered office, duration, object, capital, the quota holders and their quotas for a quota company (有限公司), the administrators and how the company is bound, and any registered powers of attorney. It is issued as a current version (現行版) or a detailed version (詳細版) with the history of registered changes, with or without the articles attached.
Written report of commercial registration (商業登記書面報告 / Informação escrita)The same particulars as the certificate, issued for information purposes rather than as a certified instrument, as an extract (摘錄版) or a detailed version (詳細版), with or without the articles. Anyone may apply, and the online application does not need a Macao One Account.
Certificate of admissibility of business name (商業名稱可予登記證明 / Certificado de admissibilidade de firma)The registry's confirmation that a proposed name may be registered, valid for 60 days. Used at incorporation rather than for due diligence.
Articles of association as published (章程 / Estatutos)The company's articles as held on the registry's file, attached on request to a certificate or written report, and as published in Series II of the Macao Official Gazette (澳門特別行政區公報 / Boletim Oficial) in the notarial notices.
Confirmation of a commercial registration certificateThe registry's confirmation that a certificate presented to a third party is genuine and current.

Worth knowing

  • Records are kept in Chinese and Portuguese, the two official languages, and a certificate is issued in one of them. There is no English certificate. Fill Easy returns the registry's original; translation is a separate step.
  • No local agent is needed. The written report is open to any applicant, and Fill Easy applies on your behalf. The Macao SAR Government service guide says online applications are issued within two working days.
  • Most Macau companies are quota companies, so the owners of record appear on the certificate. For a company limited by shares, only the capital, administrators and the published articles are public; the shareholder register stays with the company.
  • A certificate has no fixed validity. The receiving bank or authority sets how recent it must be; for notarial acts the registry states three months.
  • The registry shows registered facts only. Business tax status is a matter for the Financial Services Bureau, and gaming, financial and other licensed activities are overseen by their own regulators.

Questions

How do I check if a company is registered in Macau?

Apply for a written report of commercial registration (查公司紙) from the Commercial and Movable Property Registry. It shows the current record and anyone may request it. Fill Easy orders it and returns it with the source and retrieval time recorded.

What is the difference between a Macau commercial registration certificate and a written report?

Both show the same registered particulars. The certificate is a certified instrument for use with banks, notaries and courts. The written report is for information purposes and is the usual choice for due diligence.

Can I get the shareholders of a Macau company?

For a quota company, which is the common form, yes: the quota holders and their quotas are registered and appear on the certificate. For a company limited by shares the shareholders are not registered.

How much does a Macau commercial registration certificate cost?

The Macao SAR Government service guide lists MOP 50 per certificate plus stamp duty of MOP 15 for paper (MOP 5 per additional page) or MOP 15 flat for an electronic certificate, and MOP 20 per written report. Fill Easy confirms the total with the order.

Are Macau company documents available in English?

No. The registry issues certificates in Chinese or Portuguese. Translation into English is arranged separately.
