Companies in Malaysia are registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia, Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM). SSM sells corporate information through portals run by its appointed service providers: SSM e-Info, MyDATA SSM, SSM Search and SSM SAFEDATA. The company profile shows the company's registration, capital, directors, shareholders, officers and charges, and separate extracts cover the particulars of directors and officers, the shareholder list and copies of filed documents.

Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM)

Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia

Statutory body under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN)

SSM registers and regulates companies under the Companies Act 2016, businesses under the Registration of Businesses Act 1956 and limited liability partnerships under the Limited Liability Partnerships Act 2012. It is a statutory body under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, formed by the merger of the Office of the Registrar of Companies and the Office of the Registrar of Businesses, and began operating on 16 April 2002.

Corporate information is supplied through portals run by service providers appointed by SSM (SSM e-Info, MyDATA SSM, SSM Search and SSM SAFEDATA), where a company profile and the documents a company has lodged are bought per item at the fees in the schedule to the Companies Regulations 2017 plus the portal's service charge. The profile can be bought in Malay or English and shows directors and shareholders, which makes Malaysia one of the more transparent registers in Southeast Asia. Beneficial ownership information lodged with SSM under the Companies (Amendment) Act 2024 is not part of the public profile.

Company registration number

12 digits since 11 October 2019 for companies, businesses and LLPs, beginning with the 4-digit year of registration, for example 201901000005. SSM's own example shows how an older company is written with both numbers, 201901000005 (1312525-A): the previous number, up to 7 digits with a check letter, stays in brackets and both appear on the profile.

Worth knowing

  • Shareholder and director data on the profile is as current as the company's last lodgement, usually the annual return. Check the date of the latest annual return shown on the profile.
  • Under the Companies (Amendment) Act 2024 companies lodge beneficial ownership information with SSM. It is not public: SSM supplies it only to the beneficial owner, a person the owner authorises in writing, Bank Negara Malaysia, enforcement agencies, reporting institutions under the First Schedule of the AMLA and the Ministry of Finance for procurement, by application over the counter at RM20 per company. Fill Easy's profile shows registered shareholders only.
  • A company registered before October 2019 has two numbers. Either works for a search, and the profile shows both.
  • Private companies (Sendirian Berhad, Sdn. Bhd.) lodge financial statements with SSM, so a financial summary is usually available. Sole proprietorships and partnerships registered under the Registration of Businesses Act have a simpler business profile with no shareholders.
  • On 21 July 2026 SSM announced that the company profile and other corporate information were available again through SSM e-Info, MyDATA SSM and SSM Search after a service interruption, while the audit firm profile, company secretary information data and personal involvement as auditor or company secretary were still being restored. Fill Easy confirms availability with the order if a product is not yet back.

Questions

Are the shareholders of a Malaysian company public?

Yes. The SSM company profile lists each shareholder with the number of shares held, and a separate Particulars of Shareholder extract can be bought. Beneficial owners are lodged with SSM under the 2024 amendments but are not public; SSM releases that information only to the owner, their authorised persons, Bank Negara Malaysia, enforcement agencies, AMLA reporting institutions and the Ministry of Finance.

What is the new SSM company registration number format?

A 12-digit number used for companies, businesses and LLPs since 11 October 2019, beginning with the year of registration, for example 201901000005. Older companies keep their previous number, such as 1312525-A, and SSM shows both on the profile, as 201901000005 (1312525-A).

What does an SSM company profile show?

Registration details, status, addresses, nature of business, share capital, directors, officers, shareholders, charges and a summary of the latest financial statements. It is the standard document for Malaysian KYB.

What is the difference between e-Info and MyData SSM?

They are two of the four portals (with SSM Search and SSM SAFEDATA) run by service providers appointed by SSM to supply the same corporate information at the fees in the Companies Regulations 2017 plus a service charge. Fill Easy retrieves from SSM's channels and returns the profile as a PDF, so you do not need an account on any of them.

How quickly does Fill Easy return a Malaysian company profile?

Malaysia is an automated market, so the company profile and particulars of directors arrive in under 5 minutes by email or API. Other documents, such as certified copies, are confirmed with the order.
