Malta company records distinguish shareholders from beneficial owners.
Malta company records distinguish shareholders from beneficial owners.
Maltese company records name both the directors and the shareholders, and anyone can search them on the Malta Business Registry's BAROS portal after a free login. The register of beneficial owners is held by the same registry but is not public: since July 2025 a person outside the obliged sectors must apply in writing and show a legitimate interest in fighting money laundering or terrorist financing.
Fill Easy can order Malta Business Registry documents by email or through the API as part of its company registry search across 60+ jurisdictions, and our EU base is in Malta. Price and turnaround are confirmed with the order.
Registry
Government agency established under Subsidiary Legislation 595.27, led by the Registrar of Companies
The Malta Business Registry is the central authority for commercial entities in Malta, registering companies, commercial partnerships, foundations and associations under the Companies Act. Filing and search run through its online portal, the Business Automation Registry Online System (BAROS). Since 2021 the MBR has also been a supervisory authority under the Prevention of Money Laundering and Funding of Terrorism Regulations, and it keeps the central Register of Beneficial Owners and the Insolvency Register.
Company search on BAROS is by company name, registration number or both. Since 1 August 2025 it requires a login, by Malta Government CORP account, Malta e-ID, eIDAS or a non-EU login, and registration is free. The company record shows the involved parties, such as directors, company secretary, shareholders and legal and judicial representatives, and the documents filed, which can be bought online.

Use the Company Search on the Malta Business Registry's BAROS portal, by company name or registration number. Since 1 August 2025 you need to log in with a Malta Government CORP account, Malta e-ID, eIDAS or a non-EU login; registration is free.
Regulation 7 of the beneficial owners regulations sets separate access tiers. Since 10 July 2025 a person outside them can apply to the Registrar at accesstobo@mbr.mt and demonstrate a legitimate interest in preventing and combating money laundering, its predicate offences or terrorist financing; refusals can be appealed.
