Company search in Taiwan

Taiwanese companies are registered under the Company Act with the Ministry of Economic Affairs or, for smaller companies, the city and county governments it delegates to. The Ministry publishes the register through its Commercial and Industrial Registration Public Information Search Service, which shows a company's capital, representative, directors and supervisors with their shareholdings, managers and change history.

Fill Easy returns the registration data and the filed registration documents by email to agent@fill-easy.com or through the REST API. Records are in Traditional Chinese. Every result records the source, the retrieval time and the request ID.

Commercial and Industrial Registration Public Information Search Service (GCIS)

經濟部商工登記公示資料查詢服務

Administration of Commerce, Ministry of Economic Affairs (經濟部商業發展署), formerly the Department of Commerce until September 2023

The Administration of Commerce is the central competent authority for company registration. It registers companies with paid-in capital of NT$1 billion or more and delegates the rest to the six special municipalities and its central Taiwan office. All registrations are published in one national search service.

The free search accepts a company name, unified business number, factory registration number, address, representative or the name of a director, supervisor or manager. A company page is in three parts: basic data, directors and supervisors by title and name with the juristic person they represent and shares held, and managers with dates of appointment, with links to branches, factories and historical data.

The search shows registration status only. Whether a company is actually trading and tax-registered is a matter for the Ministry of Finance's business tax registration search.

Worth knowing

  • Records are in Traditional Chinese. The public search data are published in Chinese only; the company registration fee rules list a certificate of registration at NT$200 and an English certificate at NT$600, issued by the registration authority on application. A company's English name, where it has one, is registered with the International Trade Administration as an exporter or importer, not on the company register.
  • No local agent is needed for the public data. Under Article 393 of the Company Act, registration documents may be inspected or copied by the company's responsible person or an interested party stating reasons, and the authority may refuse or limit the request; the items the Act lists as public, which include the company's articles, may be requested from the authority by anyone. The fee rules set NT$10 per copy of a registration form or articles, NT$10 per item for online retrieval of the latest registration form or articles, and NT$50 for postage.
  • For a company limited by shares (股份有限公司) the public register shows only the shareholdings of directors and supervisors. The shareholder register stays with the company or its share registrar. Listed companies disclose major shareholders through the Market Observation Post System of the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
  • Directors' terms shown on the search service are reported by the company and are not a registered item, so they can lag an election.
  • The search service shows registration status, not operating status. For whether the company is registered for business tax and still trading, the Ministry of Finance's tax registration search is the source.

Questions

How do I check if a company is registered in Taiwan?

Search the Ministry of Economic Affairs' public information service by name or 8-digit unified business number. The result shows status, capital, representative and directors free of charge. Fill Easy returns the data as a dated record with the source noted.

What is a Taiwan unified business number?

An 8-digit number assigned at registration that identifies the company for registration, tax and invoicing. It is the number to use when ordering any Taiwan company document.

Can I get the shareholders of a Taiwanese company?

Partly. The public register shows directors and supervisors with their shares. For a limited company, the registration form lists all members and contributions. For a company limited by shares, shareholders other than directors and supervisors are not public.

Can I get a Taiwan company's articles of incorporation?

Yes. The articles are a public item under Article 393 of the Company Act, so anyone may apply to the registration authority for a copy; the fee rules set NT$10 per copy, or NT$10 per item for online retrieval of the latest electronic file, which the Act allows with the company's consent. Fill Easy orders the copy and returns it.

Are Taiwan company records available in English?

No. The Ministry publishes registration data in Traditional Chinese. Translation is a separate step.
