A Qatar company search starts by identifying its registration framework.
Identify the correct Qatar registry, distinguish MOCI commercial registration from QFC records and assess licences, branches and ownership evidence.

Qatar company records depend on the entity’s registration framework. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry provides commercial registration services, including through the Single Window. Entities within the Qatar Financial Centre, or QFC, have a separate registration framework and available public-register information.
A Qatar address alone does not identify the correct registry. Ask which authority registered the legal person and obtain its exact registration reference. A mainland commercial registration and a QFC entity reference are different evidence routes, even when the companies have similar names or share an office.
Identify the framework before searching
Request the full legal name, legal form, registration authority and official identifier. A current registration document can establish these particulars when the customer is unsure. Preserve the Arabic registered name where applicable and the English version used in contracts as separate recorded fields.
For an entity within the Ministry’s framework, use the relevant MOCI or Single Window route for the requested information. For a QFC entity, use the QFC registration sources. If the papers identify another applicable framework, establish its competent authority rather than forcing the entity into one of those two searches.
Do not treat a negative result from one source as proof that the business is unregistered throughout Qatar. First establish whether that source covers the legal form and registration framework concerned. A search limitation should be recorded as a limitation, followed by the appropriate enquiry.
Match the exact legal person
Search with the official identifier where possible. For a name search, compare the legal form, registered address and available formation information. Arabic and English spellings can differ through transliteration, but the identifier and other particulars should support the proposed match.
A group name may appear on the website of several companies. Identify the entity that signs the agreement, issues the invoice and receives payment. Explain any different beneficiary or operating company through supporting records rather than assuming all members of the group are interchangeable.
Retain each registration reference with its issuing authority. An identifier meaningful within one framework should not be interpreted as a universal Qatar company number. Tax information and sector permissions also have distinct roles and should be labelled separately in the evidence record.
Distinguish a branch from a subsidiary
A foreign company can operate through a registered branch, while a locally incorporated subsidiary is a separate legal person. Establish which structure the customer’s official documents describe. The branch’s local registration should be linked to the underlying foreign company, including its home-jurisdiction identifier.
For a foreign branch, obtain the home company’s registry evidence for formation and current registered status. The local record supports the Qatar registration and relevant local particulars. For a subsidiary, obtain its own Qatar record and trace the foreign corporate shareholder as an ownership enquiry.
- Foreign branch: connect the Qatar registration to the same legal person’s home record.
- Local subsidiary: identify the separate incorporated person and then trace its owners.
- Operating location: determine which entity is responsible before using it as corporate identity evidence.
Select documents according to their purpose
Registration information establishes the recorded identity and available particulars. Formation or constitutional documents can explain the entity’s structure and representation. Operating permissions or regulatory records answer whether a particular activity is permitted within its applicable framework.
| Evidence question | Document or source | Scope to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Which Qatar entity is involved? | Relevant registration record | Authority, identifier and legal form |
| Is it a foreign branch? | Local registration and home-company evidence | Connection to the same legal person |
| Is the activity permitted? | Relevant licence or regulatory record | Entity, authorised activity and conditions |
| Who can act for it? | Representation information and suitable mandate | Transaction-specific authority |
Confirm what is accessible for the entity and requester. If a receiving bank, court or other organisation requires an officially issued or authenticated document, specify that requirement before obtaining the file. An ordinary search result should not be described as certified evidence without the required certification.
Separate QFC registration from regulatory permission
A QFC registration identifies an entity within that framework. It should not automatically be treated as proof that the entity may conduct every regulated financial activity. The Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority is a distinct primary source when the relevant regulated activity falls within its remit.
Compare the registered entity and any authorised person by name, identifier and available particulars. A permission held by one group company does not automatically cover another company using the same brand. Read the authorised activity and conditions relevant to the transaction instead of relying solely on a licence image provided by the customer.
The same principle applies outside the QFC: establish the competent authority for the actual activity. Commercial registration, professional permissions and financial regulation are separate evidence questions. Record each check’s source and limits so the corporate identity conclusion does not imply wider regulatory assurance.
Verify representation and ownership
Compare the proposed signatory with accessible registered representation and the company’s constitutional or authority documents. A director, manager, partner or employee can have a different role depending on the legal form. Obtain a resolution, delegation or mandate where the transaction requires additional evidence.
Check that the authority concerns the correct entity, covers the instruction and meets any joint-signature conditions. If the representation changed, use the current evidence and relevant dates rather than an older onboarding form. Keep original documents alongside any translation so the underlying conditions remain assessable.
Ownership disclosures and corporate documents can vary by framework, legal form and access rules. Do not promise universal public beneficial ownership access. Trace available corporate holders and request shareholder or control evidence where accessible official records leave a gap.
Preserve and request the Qatar file
Retain the original registration record, relevant licences, authority evidence and home-jurisdiction records where needed. Record the source, retrieval details, exact identifier and registration framework with each item. Keep your interpretation separate, explaining matches, discrepancies and unresolved ownership links.
Use the international company registry search with the legal name, registration authority, identifier and documents required. Include branch status, relevant activity and any certification or translation need. Feasibility and access are confirmed for the requested items; price and expected turnaround are confirmed when the order is accepted.
